We occasionally have started and finished Higgins Gundogs available. We often have young dogs and puppies available through Griffonpoint Kennel (formerly Newtown Kennels). I have personally worked with these pups and they are outstanding gun dogs. As always, Higgins Gundogs are guaranteed to exceed your expectations.
All of our puppies and young dogs have been raised since birth with the Higgins Method and have had extensive exposure to birds and hunting. Pups are raised in a pack environment that includes men, women, children, hunting hawks and other dogs. Our pups are well-experienced and most are steady and being shot over at 6 months of age. No pressure has been used in the training of our dogs. Remember, you don’t take a Higgins Gundog hunting; a Higgins Gundog takes YOU hunting.
Higgins Gundogs are well socialized, cooperative and understand their place in the human/dog pack.
Reserve your trained Higgins Griffonpoint Griffon puppy now! You are invited to reserve your puppy from our current litter. Your puppy will be raised and trained by us while we keep in contact with you with updates, videos and photos. You are encouraged to come see your puppy, as often as possible during training so that you learn how to handle your Higgins trained Griffon. When your trained gun dog is ready to go home to your family you will spend time with us in the field learning how to handle your dog successfully. We will also support you during the ‘settling in’ period, the period of time when your pup is new to your home. Trained pups are generally ready to go to their new families between six and nine months old and are ready to take you hunting. They are crate trained, raised in the house with the family, great around other dogs and children. We have only up to three of these puppies at a time so that they receive plenty of time and attention.
Give us a call for information on puppies and young dogs currently available.
About Griffonpoint Kennel (Formerly Newtown Kennels)
Griffonpoint Kennel was founded in 1989 by Shannon Ford. She personally bred and raised many litters of Griffons, matching them with the best homes in North America. In 2003 Shannon and Katy met and began working together with the same spirit and goals of continuing to breed beautiful, talented and affectionate Griffons.
Now in partnership with Higgins Gundogs, Griffonpoint Kennel continues to breed the finest working Griffons. We place a strong emphasis on proper socialization, health testing and natural ability in the field.
Before being considered for our breeding program every dog must be an excellent family dog, pass all health evaluations, show exemplary talent in the field and fit breed and sporting dog criteria for conformation and coat.
All of our dogs are actively hunted. We select only parents that show natural cooperation, drive, desire to work and heart–all without the use of electronic collars. We raise and hunt them them in packs, starting them as early as four weeks old, allowing them to develop and hone hunting instincts that they were born with. Later, we work them alone and in braces, often with dogs that they have never worked with before.
All of our dogs are raised with children and livestock and live in the home with us.
When buying a Griffonpoint Griffon, new owners are given the opportunity to learn how to successfully handle and shoot over their new hunting companion. We specialize in training owners how to hunt with their dogs. Brad Higgins is especially effective at training softer breeds of dogs such as the WPG.
We invite anyone curious about our program to come out and shoot over our dogs and/or see us in the field training. Additionally we are glad to provide contact details of Griffonpoint and Newtown dog owners and Higgins GunDog clients who will be happy to tell you about their dogs and share pics/video of them in the field.
Griffonpoint Wirehaired Pointing Griffons UPDATE:
UPDATE November 2013
Thank you for your interest in Griffonpoint’s Griffons!
We do not currently have any puppies available and our last trained/started Griffon is happily in her new home.
Our 2014 breeding plans are as follows:
Ithaca is due to be in season in January, 2014. We plan to put her with JoDe for her fist litter. If her cycle is on time the puppies will be due some time in the beginning of March. Ithaca is a seasoned Falconry and Upland gundog with experience with waterfowl hunting as well. She has a strong love of water and retrieving. Ithaca is a super family dog who has been raised with two young children.
We plan to breed Trixie in February if her cycle is on time. Her puppies would be due some time in May. Sire not yet chosen. Trixie is a seasoned Upland Gundog who has seen a variety of game in Alberta and who is currently retrieving waterfowl as well. She is a lovely family dog as well.
For early 2015:
We are in the process of selecting the sire for Holly’s final litter.
We are in the process of selecting the sire for Periwinkle’s final litter.
Exciting news! We are on a waiting list for a male puppy from Uschi and her kennel: http://www.griffon-von-der-hohen-ley.de/ If this male puppy is as lovely in the home and field as his dam, Jura, he will become a Griffonpoint sire.
In addition to 10 week old puppies, Griffonpoint offers started or finished gundogs and falconry dogs.
For prospective Griffonpoint puppy owners: Our Griffons are cooperative, healthy, dynamic Griffons who make excellent hunting partners and family members. We no longer participate in or endorse hunting ‘tests’, games or competitions. These venues promote the selection of undesirable traits and employment of pressure based training that is not congruous with the breeding of sensitive, cooperative and intelligent Griffons. For similar reasons, we are not a show kennel. Our goal is to produce easily trained, healthy Griffons with cooperative temperaments and supreme talent in finding and pointing game. Because our Griffons are used for falconry, they must be bred to be cooperative, intuitive, intelligent and talented. A falconry dog must be innately able to recognize the value of the hawk and willing to join with the hawk in a synergistic relationship with the goal of catching game. These qualities also make our Griffons wonderful companions in the home with their families.
